Bluestone Vineyards

Nature always makes the call regarding how the vineyard is managed each year.  Vines are tended bi-weekly with meticulous fruit and leaf thinning to ensure just the right amount of sunlight is let through.  We’re also careful to maintain the right balance of crop load year-to-year to balance quality and production.  At the end of the season, it’s all of us who come together to make the call on when the vines are ready for harvest.

Chateau Fontaine

Getting its French title from proprietor Lucie Matthies' middle name and paying homage to the French immigrants who settled in the area, Chateau Fontaine was a deserted potato farm and cow pasture when Dan Matthies discovered the property in the 1970's with its favorable south-facing slopes for growing grapes.

Today, the cow pasture is one of three vineyards totaling 30 acres of grapes, including Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Pinot Noir, and Merlot, among others.

Laurentide

Welcome to Laurentide, named in honor of the last great ice sheet that receded 10,000 years ago from the upper tier of the North American continent. With the completion of this great geologic event, the Great Lakes and surrounding lands assumed their present forms. The Leelanau peninsula was exposed and the rocks and fossils from a 350 million year old ancient sea floor started to formulate the soil that sustains our vines today contributing to the unique terroir of the region.

Leelanau Cellars

Leelanau (Lee – La – Naw) the Indian word meaning “Delight of Life,” reflects what can be seen traveling this Northern Michigan peninsula and is at the heart of the journey that began in 1974 for the Jacobson family who believed this would be a perfect location to grow grapes and produce excellent wine – thus the beginning of Leelanau Cellars.

Mari Vineyards

Mari Vineyards founder Marty Lagina made the (some would say) crazy choice to grow grapes that shouldn't grow in Michigan, with the belief that he could produce world class wines that otherwise couldn't be made here. So, true to his Italian heritage, he planted exotic varieties like Nebbiolo, Sangiovese and others. Combined with a little creative grape growing and a lot of attention, today his dream has become a reality

Peninsula Cellars

Our philosophy toward wine making has always been very minimalistic, allowing the regional expression of the fruit to come through. The sun, the rain, the wind, and the soil, all under the watchful eye of the grower, are what make our wines so good.

Rafts Hol Vineyards

Rove Estate

Rove Estate tasting room offers a perspective of the Leelanau countryside that has rarely been seen. Perched at 1100 feet, the elevation creates the area’s perfect vineyard—southern-exposed slopes, abundant sunlight and cool-air drainage offering protection from the frost—perfect conditions for premium estate grown grapes.

Shady Lane Cellars

In 1987, the original owners, from Grand Rapids, decided to purchase a 100 year old fruit farm on a Hilltop in Suttons Bay.  The goal was to join the growing number of grape growers in northern Michigan, and possibly produce some noteworthy wine. This beautiful property had everything needed to grow excellent cool-climate fruit. The combination of well-drained sandy soils, southern exposures, good air drainage and altitude were all there. This was the dream that became Shady Lane Cellars.

Silver Leaf Vineyard & Winery

An Artisan's Approach... We are dedicated to making wines that reflect the unique character and quality of our vineyard and the vineyards of Michigan.

Write a catchy title...

Our story started 20 years ago visiting Leland as a family for the first time. The simplicity and beauty of the “tucked away” secret that is Leelanau has always been what we treasure most about the area. There is a connection to the land found only here amongst the lakes, dunes, hills, and sunlit fields and our dream to start Blustone was born out of that. Our namesake is reflective of that connection and the celebration of life which we hope to inspire with every sip of wine.
